What Data Should You Focus On?

To successfully navigate your way around the golf course in the lowest risk/highest gain way possible, you need to know your shot patterns with each club. Being able to understand when you can or can’t play a shot or where you can and can’t aim off the tee or approaching the green, will allow you to make better decisions thus improving your score.

In your next practice session, whether it be in the Indoor Performance Centre or local driving range that has launch monitors available to use, focus on collecting the following data with each club:

  • Longest carry
  • Shortest carry
  • Average carry
  • Furthest left hit
  • Furthest right hit

You may need to break this task into a few sessions as the more shots you hit with each club, the more accurate your data will be.

By knowing this data, you will be able to make proper use of various GPS watches, GPS apps and your yardage book on the course to plan your most effective course strategy. Most of these apps will give you a ‘dispersion circle’ showing you where your shots will finish based on past performance and data you may have input into it.
