A Devine nine sees Billy claim Carnoustie Junior Open Title

A scintillating inward nine of two-under-par 34 saw Billy Devine of Elgin Golf Club, claim victory in The 2021 Carnoustie Junior Open over The Carnoustie Championship Course. The one-handicapper pipped Monifieth’s Phil Brown on a better inward half, after both players scored level par 72’s.

After reaching the turn in 2-over-par 38, Devine upped his game on the way in and completed a flawless back nine that saw him pick up birdies at the 12th and 14th holes. He then held his nerve as he tackled Carnoustie’s infamous closing four-hole stretch to claim a deserved victory.

In his speech Devine was complimentary of the fantastic condition of the course and said it was a privilege to play on the links only one week prior to Carnoustie hosting The AIG Women’s Open Championship.

In the Handicap Event hosted on The Carnoustie Burnside Course, Joe Dudgeon of Rowallan Castle Golf Club claimed the overall prize with a magical net 59. Within the top 3 boy players on the Burnside Course, there was also some strong representation from The Carnoustie Craws as Carnoustie Caledonia Golf Club’s Daniel McAllister and Jamie Reid finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
