Putting Pool Rules

Object of The Game
To putt your 7 coloured balls (either white or yellow) and then the black coloured 8-ball into the hole. This game is very similar to the traditional game of pool.

Game Set-Up

  1. Set the balls up using the triangle as you would in normal 8-ball pool. Place the black ball on the spot closest to the hole and build the triangle of balls around it.
  2. Place the ‘breaking ball’ (not yellow, white or black balls) on the spot furthest from the hole.

Number of Players Required
A minimum of two players or teams are required to play a game. When playing a team match, player’s alternate on every shot, keeping the same order of play until the game is completed.

The Break
The Breaking Ball is hit towards the triangle cluster of balls to break the balls up. Once the breaking ball strikes any other ball, the break is complete and the breaking ball is placed off the ‘table’ and is not used again in the frame. If a player doesn’t hit another ball during the break, then it’s a foul and the opposing player (team) now get to break and have two shots.

Choosing a colour – White or Yellow?
Once the break is completed the opposing player (team) now attempts to hole a putt. A player may choose a White or Yellow ball. If the ball is holed then that colour of ball is what the player will try to hole for the remainder of the match. If the putt is not holed, the opposition player now has an opportunity to putt and hole out with either a white or yellow ball.

Keeping Your Turn
If you hole a putt, you keep your turn. If you miss a putt, your opponent will play. If playing a team match, if you hole a putt, your team mate will play the next shot.

Completing The Game
Once all your chosen colour of balls are holed out, you can then attempt to hole the black 8- ball. The game is completed when the black ball is holed. When you are on the black 8-ball, the ball must be played in the direction of the hole. You can’t play the ball away from the hole.

Fouls
All fouls will give the opposing player (team) 2 shots in a row. However, 2 shots don’t carry over – If you were to hole a putt on your first attempt after your opponent has fouled, you don’t carry forward the 2 shots. Once your hole-out sequence has ended, play passes back to your opponent.
